Repaying Your Loans

Trouble Making Your Payments?

If you’re having trouble making your payments, contact your servicer as soon as possible. There are options that may help. If your loans are guaranteed by KHEAA, contact our Default Aversion section at 1.800.928.5327 or defaultaversion@kheaa.com

Your options may include:

  • Changing repayment plans.
  • Requesting a deferment, which lets you temporarily stop making payments on your loan.
  • Requesting a forbearance, which lets you temporarily stop making payments, temporarily make smaller payments or extend the time for making payments.

If you stop making payments and don't get a deferment or forbearance, your loan will go into default, which has serious consequences.

If you apply for a deferment or forbearance, you must make payments until your request has been granted.
